Heard about Google Talk yet? Here is an instruction how to get it working in Gaim.
- Open the Accounts menu item in the Tools menu
- Click on Add
- Choose Jabber as protocol
- At "Screen name", enter your username that stands before your @gmail.com account (my is kanngard, since my Gmail account is kanngard@gmail.com)
- Enter gmail.com at "Server"
- I think you can put anything in the "Resource" field
- Enter your password
- Expand the "Show more options" section
- Make sure the "Use TLS if available" is checked
- Leave "Force old SSL" and "Allow plaintext auth over unencrypted streams" unchecked
- Port should be set to 5222
- Enter talk.google.com at "Connect server"
Save this new account, and connect by checking the "Online" checkbox.
